Title: trololol

The main thing that I'm working on now is development tools and resources so that more people can contribute to the codebase. This should make adding new features and fixing bugs much faster; I'm also trying to make things more organized, set up dedicated developer worlds, and then get some staff. :)

You really got trolled by that? That was like his 50th empty promise.

It's actually already made...

Ryan does a lot of back-end stuff, most of which he doesn't post about.

We're working on some upcoming updates aswell as a lot of bugfixes.

He's a lot smarter than we all already believe, too.

Why not work on the actual game since no one notices "back-end stuff"?
Title: Re: trololol

You don't notice it because you've been playing this server for some time. Try going on another rsps and you will thank us for doing so many back end updates.

Allgofree has the most smooth running rsps server engine.

I'm not gonna deny Worldscape/Runerebels is the smoothest RSPS i've played on.

ALTHOUGH,

A smoothly running server isn't what players come to play, obviously it's an advantage but, there's heaps of servers that are buggy as f*ck but they have interesting and good content that make people play. When, hopefully when, Worldscape gets some unique and fresh content the back-end stuff will be more appreciated and noticed.

Instead of addressing my concern you just put yourself on a high horse. I never denied the server is smooth. I said I wanted game updates. I think it's a little late in the game to be tweaking the server engine when this community has been on its last limb for oh, I don't know, a good 2 years now? Like Jesus, if the server engine is so damn smooth then how long is it going to take to be smooth enough?

I do know he has been working on making it so players can create their own updates and implement them.

It was an idea I had years ago, where people could create entire updates and post them for Ryan to approve; this would even work for players posting updates and bug fixes.

I am not sure how close it is to being done.

Would Ryan be on often enough to sort through other people's updates? Also I do recall everyone claiming how weirdly coded this game was, how many people would actually have the knowledge to take advantage of this update?

Yeah it was the API update, we were all really pumped for it until one day James said he hadn't heard about it being worked on at all.

He may not, but you have to remember also have James and Kevin who could approve it.

And to answer your other question, that's not really what an API is.

Here, this is a protocol list for making a RSPS:
http://rsps.wikia.com/wiki/317_Protocol

Ryan would just have to add things to that list to account for all the bells and whistles he's added. Then just have a way for people to submit code online and veto whatever he doesn't like. This server may be "The best RSPS. Ever." but all 317 RSPSs are essentially doing the same things, which all can be found on what I linked above.

APIs are essentially a plug in guide for an existing app. Plus, coding is a lot more abstract than you may think, which is why plug-ins work for just about any application so long as it's the same programming language.

Edit: words

That's if James is interested in this place by the time this update comes, if it does eventually come that is. Seems as if he's been left out a little bit even though he's the only person who's actually cared and at least tried to work on the server in the past 2 years  :o

Ahh I see, thanks for clearing that up for me ( a bit at least  ::) ) I don't really take much interest in that side of games. I enjoy playing them although I'm not that eager in making them or maintaining them! To many numbers/words/symbols for my head.

The way Ryan has designed the server makes it fairly easy to implement basic content. For example, he made a Quest Editor we used a lot for RuneRebels, and he also created the Dialogue editor, I used that a lot.

He's good at making tools to get content made.

One of the biggest problems with WorldScape is the economy. There is literally no economy, we've tried making mini-games that are never used or even thought about and it just gets ignored. Adding more content won't exactly fix the problem...

One thing I wouldn't mind doing, but will likely never happen is a complete character reset. (Items/Stats) And make the max stat 99, and adjust the xp rate to fit that.

I would support a complete character reset. But, I know people who've worked hard for their ranks and stats, so why not just a item reset?

Pretty cheap to have stats that were achieved with duplicated items.

I get that.  And with the way Jeremy had things back then, giving away all these "rare" items etc was another factor to why the eco sucks.
I still love the idea of Rares, but I think we should be obtaining rare items from Boss drops, monster drops or Admin Hosted Events.  That way we can still have items from holidays events but they wouldn't be classed as "rare".

Also as read from above, posting Ryan's codes online in my opinion isn't fair.  He's kept it 'hidden' now for so long and it wouldn't be right if we just   posted it for the world to see.

As for stats that were trained without items (agility)  Would they be reset also? Anyhow,  I do believe starting new would be the best and the worse thing.

The only person I can imagine being apposed to a complete reset would be Predator because he's maxed. As Kevin said though, getting maxed with the use of unlimited resources isn't that special.

Also it'd be freak'n sick if we could have an IronMan option! Like delete the ::rune/::bank etc options and take away ::theshop and all that jazz, It'd open the game up a bit more and actually allow you to play "single-player" rather than multi-player with one person. There'd have to be some tweaking done like add more herb drops and stuff that like but it surely wouldn't be that difficult?

I don't see the point of keeping the stats/items the way they are right now if nobody who wants to keep everything doesn't play often in-game.

Why keep something if nobody will use it?

It may take more than that but the point Kevin made was every other update will be void until we fix this.

We seriously need at least another vote for an economy fix, if not also a stat reset. It's been keeping this server running in place for too long. And remember, Richard admitted to voting no on multiple different accounts which kind of ruined the entire idea of a poll.

If there is a vote, we should find something that is IP exclusive to each vote. Like maybe you have to post yes or no on a topic in order for it to count.

We'll come up with something. There is a lot to discuss about doing a reset. I would like to see it happen, but again, there are other methods of fixing the economy. Maybe not a complete item reset, but maybe items like Barrows Armour, where people have 20k+ we can reduce that down to 1. Or items like Whips, where people literally have billions, reduce that down to 1. Because I do feel the same way about a complete reset like you guys do. I have my personal account that I worked really hard on, I achieved a lot of items and stats myself. But if you guys do try to make a new account now.

You will find that it is tough to do it on your own. It's almost like you guys are "grandfathered" into the system. I made a new account and found it nearly impossible to pk or train stats because I had nothing, where you guys have millions of duped items from the past.

Post by: Jake on January 27, 2016, 05:01:15 AM
Yeah but that's the thing, the game is so incredibly easy to get "needed" items. To get a Whip you have to kill a Shade like that's easy as pie to do at even a low level.

This is why I suggested re-implementing the Blitz version of the server! It was difficult to get items and it was a grind to do shit. Even if we change the XP/levelling system on the old Blitz server and change the system to the one we currently have, that'd be better than what we're dealing with now.

I have an idea... I'll pitch it to Ryan and James tonight. But I think it can work out good. If they like it; it shouldn't be too difficult to implement and can have a positive impact on the server.

What if we make a list with all of the item ids that we know for sure has been duplicated, and we just remove those?

Or we could reset everything and bring back Blitz, just with classics minigames and bosses.
