Title: Again?
Post by: Tinyyoshi xX on May 18, 2010, 05:34:27 PM
I was wondering why it keeps taking so long to update.  I think it is because the player "Noob7272" is glitched and is always logged in.  I think the server cannot update because there is a player still playing.  I would like it if someone does something about it, I am not sure if I am correct.

It's just something ry needs to fix i bet. Don't worry he can fix it.  ;)

When the server is updating, the players list doesn't always update too so it will say that players are on still but they are not. Also it is taking so long because that's just how long updating takes to do things and whatnot.

Let me explain what 'updating' is in terms of Runescape private servers.
A staff member types ::update (or whatever the command is set to) followed by a number. The number is how long in seconds until the server goes offline.

Now, the updating is NOT automatic. When it says it's updating, really the server is just offline and won't come back online until the server is restarted by an admin. During this time Ry is most likely copying files to the server, and compiling them.

So really, you can't ask why it's taking longer than usual, because there is no usual update time -- the server is just offline until it's restarted.
Make sense?

Our servers are actually set to automatically restart upon a restart. When the server is updated it sleeps for 60,000 MS (60 seconds) and then turns itself back on.

Now sometimes we do encounter a bug within the login-server that doesn't guarantee a quick start-up. These bugs are always fixed as soon as they are found and all is well!

Oh, I see.
I just thought it wasn't automatic, because in the server source I was using I had to manually restart the server afterwards.

Ry wrote this source on his own. ;D
