I saw someone earlier wanting help with playing WS on Linux but no one could help him because no one knew what to do. So here's a simple enough guide on how to get WS working on Linux.

How to get WS running in Linux using the downloadable client:
Step 1: Install OpenJDK jre and Sun jre using the sudo line below. One version tends to work better than the other on some systems.
sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre sun-java6-jre

Step 2: Download the WS client here.

Step 3: Extract the client somewhere.

Step 4: Open the client using either OpenJDK or Sun. (If you get stuck on unpacking media try the other one.)

Step 5: After the game has successfully downloaded log in and enjoy!

If you continue to have problems even after trying a different jre try the steps below:
Step 1: Go to /home/user and delete the folder named 'allgofree'

Step 2: Show hidden files in your file manager by pressing ctrl + h or going under the view menu.

Step 3: Delete the hidden folder named '.allgofree'

Note: Steps in the guide may vary depending on your file manager, or lack thereof.

We need to get the IRC back up or just make a chat box for when the server goes down, or just whenever really.

'Nuff said.

Tech Support / Java Problem - Again
February 27, 2011, 07:00:22 PM
So I'm having the same problem I had here again.

So far I've tried all the things that fixed it last time and nothing has worked:

  • Uninstalling and installing Java again.
  • Trying an older version of Java.
  • Killing the process using all the CPU. (Just ends Java all together.)
  • Just reinstalling Windows. (Not that big a deal to me.)

I have also tried all the above things on my fresh install of Windows, and it doesn't work.

Sometimes there is more than one Java.exe in task manager, one that is using a lot of ram and cpu, and one that isn't. Ending either one just ends Java. Kind of lost on what to do now, Google searches on the subject bring nothing up.

Tech Support / Halp: Java is brokes
December 14, 2010, 09:53:27 PM
After about 8 months of being gone I finally want to try Blitz. During those 8 months, however, I have not used anything that requires Java. So today I update Java, JRE, and JDK. After everything seems all nice and updated I go download the cache and try to play Blitz. The only problem is that Java is using 100% of my CPU, making it impossible to play.

To try and fix this I have tried:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Java.
  • Manually updating Java.
  • Reinstalling JDK.
  • Ending every unnecessary process except Firefox and Java.
  • Trying the downloadable client.
  • ?
  • Profit.
Nothing seems to work. Help would be appreciated.

February 21, 2010, 07:41:46 PM
A few people have made weekly polls, but they don't seem to last very long. So this is the new official weekly poll!

After every week the results of the poll will be posted below and a new poll will be added.

Have fun voting! ;)

Suggestions / Classic - DO NOT SUGGEST
February 21, 2010, 05:24:49 PM
A lot of people have good suggestions on how to improve the game. Although there are a few things that we urge you not to suggest.

These include:

  • Any custom items what so ever. (ie. Skill capes, Vesta, Statius, etc.)
  • Anything with no use at all. (colored names, etc.)
  • Anything that would require editing the client. (New items, special symbols, etc.)
  • Custom skills
  • New areas. (A new place could be added, but not from scratch.)
  • Special attacks
  • God swords
  • Pretty much anything in RuneScape now.
Remember this is for Classic only! Most of these have already been added to Blitz, which should be here soon.
