Title: How to run Worldscape on a Mac without problems
Post by: Mute on August 21, 2010, 03:14:12 PM

ARGH
Youtube didn't upload the audio of this video...
Oh well, If you watch the video directly on youtube, the HD nature of it will be enough for you to follow my steps.

EDIT:  If you want audio, get the movie from here:  http://www.mediafire.com/?k37839u43zdydre

DOUBLE EDIT:
Copy and paste this into terminal:

java -jar -Xmx512m

Then drag + drop the client file (AllGoFree_RS_Client.jar) into terminal, and it should automatically come up with the location within.

Then press enter on your keyboard.

When i open the "Mac Read Me" thing , It doesn't say what yours say. Mine just says drag the client into the applications folder with the updater and run the updater. It works, But when i click on something the client will shut.

Where did you download you're  client? Because it wont work on mine.

Ugh, youtube hates me.
I'm not gonna make another video now, because they disabled uploads for .mov files.  (Quicktime files)

Just try follow this:

Copy and paste this into terminal:

java -jar -Xmx512m

Then drag + drop the client file (AllGoFree_RS_Client.jar) into terminal, and it should automatically come up with the location within.

Then press enter on your keyboard.

Jar file worked but crashed.

Lol yeah Mac OS is just Mac Operating System... Which could mean pretty much any Mac in the world. Go the the apple icon at the top left corner of your screen and click About this Mac. It should tell you there.

damn it's too old for me to understand, because it doesn't say 32-bit or 64-bit or whatever. Try checking the other Java Version I guess.

There is a much easier way to start it without the terminal.

• Download the Worldscape Blitz Client.
• Open Java Preferences and have J2SE ticked (If you tick one the other should tick by its self.) Make sure you have no others clicked.
• Put J2SE 32-Bit first and Put J2SE 64-bit third. (One in between the two J2SE ones.)
• Click options then type "-Xmx512m" With no quotations into the text box. Don't have "Smooth into Java applets ticked."
• Once you've done all that click the Worldscape Blitz client, It should open. If you move two times and lag recheck your Java Preferences and make sure 32-Bit is first.

I'm not 100% sure this works with snow leopard. Tell me if it doesn't and I'l SUS it out :)

Thanks for info. I followed your steps but in JAVA preferences I did not see J2SE client.
Only 2 items 32bit and 64 bit but nothing indicating J2SE
Tried options for 32bit item and type Xm etc but did not work.
Worldscape starts up ok but as soon as I run/walk it crashes.
Is Java the problem or could also be Safari?
Have not used Firefox.

Tried running in Hi and Lo Detail both times crashes with Safari and OSX.
Also running parallels and WinXp but hope to run Worldscape just real MAC software.
If I read the report after the failure (after crash) it looks like indeed JAVA is the problem.
Hopefully somebody can find a solution.
MACs should be plug and play (easy) but not in this case I guess.....

If there us Java SE 6 use that. 32 Bit still first.

Also, did your English get better or what?

Used 32 first with option code -X etc. Also re-checked Java pref after login still 32 first then 64.
However still crashes after 2 moves.....

Ok thanks mate. Hopefully you or somebody else can make this work on a MAC.
Are you running Leopard?
I am using Parallels and Windows as as interim solution.

Anybody else running Snow Leopard (MAC OSX) with Safari who runs Worldscape without problems?
Please let us know how you did it...

I don't see why that post was needed?

Gomes97, Have you gotten it to work yet?

Ok thanks for info.
However according your screenshot you use Java version 5 but Snow Leopard uses Java6.
And I believe that is the problem with running Worldscape.
Also can not uninstall Java6 and reinstall a previous version.
So the solution if anybody has one is to run Worldscape with Java6.
For now will use Windows which works fine.
Thanks and Happy New Year,
Gomes
